From what everyone has said, I think I shall stay on I-80 to to CA50/16, the El Dorado Freeway, then continue on 16 to 49. We just got back from Stampede Reservoir which is near Truckee a little over a week ago. We have been to Jackson Rancheria about 5 times. It takes about an hour to take Sunrise Blvd with heavy traffic. I-80 Summit: Muddy Gap Casper: Woods Landing Laramie: Casper Outer Drive: Chief Joseph Highway: Edgerton Wright: McKinnon: Rifle. Take Sunrise Blvd south and about 20 miles later, turn left on Hi-16 to hi- 49 to Jackson, then to Hi 89 to the Rancheria. Take the Sunrise Blvd off and go over the freeway. There is no timetable for the highway to reopen, CHP Truckee says. The way I would go is take Westbound I-80 (not the best highway) to Roseville. Caltrans closed a 77-mile stretch going both directions on I-80 in Placer County due to whiteout conditions. It is a pretty drive, but it is a bit long. One is to go around to Hi-89, and take that way from So Tahoe to Jackson. Hwy 49 from Auburn through Placerville is very twisty. That will avoid Hwy 80 which is the worst Hwy I have ever been on. I would go south on 395 to Hwy 50 and then to South Lake Tahoe. I store my trailer in Jackson and get there from South Lake Tahoe on Hwy 50 to Missouri Flat Road and then to 49 to Jackson, just follow the signs. The section of 49 between El dorado and Plymouth isn't bad. If the weather is sketchy, instead of turning at Meyers, I'd take 50 to the Missouri Flat Rd off ramp, then 49 to Plymouth, then on to Jackson. If I was going from Truckee to Jackson, and the weather was good, I'd take the road around the east shore thru South Lake Tahoe, catch 89 at Meyers and then 88 to Jackson. ![]() 49 from Placerville to Plymouth was not recommended for RVers.Ĩ9 around the west shore of Tahoe has some pretty tight and narrow spots around Emerald Bay. I was just up in Plymouth and was told by the locals that hwy. It looks like CA 49/193 from Auburn may be the most direct route, but would it be better to go to Sacramento and take CA 16 to 49? I did a search on the forum and 49 seems to be ok, but can anyone confirm before I get the rv and toad into a difficult situation.
